Genisys's History
In 1936, a small group of General Motors Truck & Coach workers in Pontiac, MI decided to start a credit union. That’s how Genisys Credit Union got its name. The group started with $25.00 and voted for a treasurer to keep it safe. The first credit union was in that man’s house. He bought a big safe made of steel and cement to keep the money inside. However, his wife wouldn’t let him bring it into the house so it stayed outside on the porch until the weight caused it to crash through the floor. The same safe is still being used at our Pontiac branch today!
In 2002, Genisys Credit Union took the name “Town & Community” when we began serving everyone living, working, worshiping or attending school in Oakland County and certain areas of Ypsilanti.
Since the beginning, Genisys has grown to over $550 million and has several branch locations. As a Teen Advantage Club member, you own part of this money and the credit union.
